Three Local Institutions, One Shared Goal
Amore Neapolitan Pizzeria, New Mexico United, and New Day Youth & Family Services Come Together for a Day of Giving
Albuquerque, NM – One Albuquerque. Somos Unidos. We Are This City. As any Burqueño knows, our city isn’t just a city. It’s a community—emphasis on “unity.”
That sense of togetherness will be strongly felt at a Day of Giving on Sunday, September 15 at Amore Neapolitan Pizzeria’s Green Jeans Farmery location. From 3-5pm, anyone visiting Amore Green Jeans Farmery will have the chance to show their support for the local nonprofit New Day Youth & Family Services AND meet New Mexico United goalkeeper Cody Mizell.
Mizell, who was one of the first players to join New Mexico United and has had 70 saves during the team’s inaugural season, is the Day of Giving special guest. He will be available for a meet-and-greet and photographs. Post-photo donations to New Day are kindly suggested; other options for giving will include rounded-up food tabs and crafting construction paper chains with good wishes and support for the New Day youth.
Since 1976, New Day has provided shelter and security for young people in trouble. It offers programs and services for at-risk youth and families, with a mission to connect young people to safety, community, and themselves. To help realize that mission, Amore Neapolitan Pizzeria, long a supporter of New Day, and New Mexico United came together to create the Day of Giving. The day is free and open to the public, with Amore pizzas and other menu offerings available for purchase. September 15 will also mark the start of Amore’s month-long “Round Up for New Day” initiative, providing further opportunities for donations.
“This event is about giving back and having fun,” said Amore Neapolitan Pizzeria owner Gabriel Amador. “We’re excited to share the love for New Day, an organization of which we’re long-time admirers. And as sponsors and huge fans of New Mexico United, we’re obviously thrilled to welcome Cody to the pizzeria. There’s something poignant about the presence of the word ‘unity’ in ‘community,’ and about the harmony symbolized by circles and spheres. Maybe there’s a reason soccer balls and pizzas have that shape in common!”
Steve Johnson, CEO at New Day, noted, “One of our core beliefs at New Day is that to truly help young people, we must help them create a personal dream for their future. But to have that personal dream, they must have a foundation of love and support. Events like the Day of Giving show the young people at New Day that the New Mexico community has their back. We’re here for them; we’re their advocates. We’re in this together.”
